Stepwise Coffee

Stepwise Coffee started as a roasting project and now runs a small cafe on a quiet residential stretch of Randolph Avenue in St Paul. The room is bright and minimal, with two large bay windows looking out over turn of the century homes, and it keeps short weekend hours, open Saturday and Sunday from eight in the morning to two in the afternoon.

The focus is a short list of single origin coffees, with recent lots including a washed bourbon from Burundi's Masha and a washed Colombia from women producers, sold as 300 gram bags. The bar serves espresso drinks such as cortados. The founders, Dalton and Kelli, bring experience from busy cafes, roasting production and sensory work, and describe the aim as quality and approachability.
