Spyhouse Coffee Whittier

The wooden counter at Spyhouse Coffee Whittier with a pastry case on the left, a chalkboard menu above and a silver espresso machine behind

This is where Spyhouse Coffee began in 2000, in a 1926 brownstone on Nicollet Avenue's Eat Street. It sits a few blocks from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Children's Theatre, which makes it a natural stop before or after a gallery visit.

The original cafe still pours coffee from the company's own roasting facility and keeps a calmer pace than the busier locations, so it works well for settling in with a pour over and a book or a project. It is open from seven in the morning until six in the evening every day, and the brownstone's old storefront character is as much a part of the visit as the cup.
