Lilla Kafferosteriet

The honey colored corner building of Lilla Kafferosteriet with painted signage, hanging flower baskets, and outdoor umbrellas

Filip Åkerblom started Lilla Kafferosteriet's roastery in 2005, billed as Sweden's first modern specialty micro roastery, and opened the cafe the following spring after traveling to meet coffee farmers across Central and South America, then Africa and Asia at a time when Swedish coffee knowledge on origin was thin. Beyond the cup, the operation built international training programs for roasters and helped establish the Coffee Roasters Guild trade body in 2018.

The cafe itself occupies a honey colored seventeenth century building on a pedestrianized street in the old town, cozy nooks inside and parasol seating out front in summer. House beans come partly through a cooperative in Indonesia alongside origins in Peru, Guatemala, and Brazil, and the kanelsnurra, the shop's own take on the cinnamon bun, is a signature order.
