Artisan Coffee Roaster

Ignacio Prado, known locally as Nacho, opened Artisan Coffee in 2020 on Plaza de San Francisco, but the coffee runs deeper in his family than the shop's own age suggests. The Prados also founded and still run Café Central on Plaza de la Constitución, and Ignacio's grandfather José Prado Crespo coined the terms malagueños still use to order coffee today, mitad, nube, and sombra, back in 1954.

Artisan itself skips the cafe format almost entirely in favor of the roasting operation, small batch lots roasted on site and sold by the bag, with visitors regularly describing the room as feeling more like a working roastery than somewhere to sit and linger. Thursday evening cupping sessions cap at five people and walk newcomers through origin, process, and how to taste the difference between commercial and specialty coffee.
