Utópico Specialty Coffee

The UTØPICO SPECIALTY COFFEE lettering above the white painted shopfront on Calle Juan Bravo

Utópico opened on Calle Juan Bravo in June 2022 and is still owned and run by founder Diar Abdi, who grew up in Madrid with Syrian Kurdish roots. The coffee is roasted by the team themselves at a medium profile and sold as 200 gram bags with the region, varietal, altitude and tasting notes spelled out, from a washed Castillo and Caturra out of Risaralda to an Ethiopian Sidama and a Colombian Gesha. Espresso and filter coffee are served alongside signature drinks rooted in Arab world recipes and homemade sweets.

The room is compact and warm, with a bench by the door and tables inside for working, reading or watching the street. Barista training here follows SCA standards, and the team roasts for a small circle of partner cafes, restaurants and hotels too. For a full Middle Eastern kitchen, the Matbakh sibling is a few minutes away on Calle Don Ramón de la Cruz.
