Oso Cafe

The long counter at Oso Café with an espresso machine and a barista at work, shelves of white coffee bags and a window with the Oso Café lettering

Oso Café grew out of El Oso y el Madroño, the neighborhood café bar a Peruvian family opened nearby in 2006. When they discovered specialty coffee they trained as baristas and kept Peruvian beans on one grinder at all times. In April 2021 they opened this second space, devoted to coffee to drink and coffee to take home, run by Fanny Ayala, her brother Leo and her husband Dani, with Fanny as head roaster.

The shop is small and focused, with roasting done live in the shop. Beans are roasted in small batches in Madrid, Peru first, then Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras and further origins, including micro lots scored at 84 points. The team is happy to walk you through grinding and brewing the beans at home, and the shop's website sends bags by post if you cannot make it back.
