Café Angélica

Café Angélica was born in 2007 after its founders watched the documentary Black Gold and travelled to Ethiopia to see coffee at its source. In 2016 they opened the roastery on Calle de San Bernardo, in a former spice and herb shop that dates back to 1947, and they still roast by hand there on a five kilogram German Probat machine, in batches of four kilos.
The coffees are fair trade specialty lots from small producers and women's cooperatives in eight countries, including Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Kenya and Ethiopia. The founders trained with Pablo and Nolo of Madrid roaster Hola Coffee, and the shop also stocks teas, spices and herbs. Beans are sold in the shop and by subscription online, and there is a sister shop in Santander.
