85 Tazas Specialty Coffee

The round white 85 Tazas hanging sign above the entrance, reading specialty coffee, 100 percent Colombian, producers, roasters and baristas

85 Tazas is the Madrid outpost of a Colombian coffee family. Two generations have farmed at altitude since 1986, developing fermentations designed for their own land, and the Chamartín shop on Calle de Puerto Rico is where that work reaches the cup. The team works only with coffees that score 85 points or higher on the SCA scale, fewer than five percent of world production, and controls the chain from seed to extraction.

Owner Andrés guides visitors through the coffee, from harvest and processing to the way each one is roasted and brewed, so a visit feels closer to a conversation than a quick stop. The shop works for takeaway as well as sitting down, with a terrace outside, and it sells its beans by the bag. Closing time comes early, so aim for a morning or early afternoon visit.
