1000 Cups Specialty Coffee

1000 Cups is a family run specialty roaster, and its coffee shop sits on Calle del Capitán Blanco Argibay in Tetuán. Agustín Fernández spent 17 years cooking in Madrid's big hotel kitchens before falling for coffee, then trained as a barista, taster and roaster, and set up 1000 Cups with his wife Laura. They lean towards light and medium light roasts that keep the character of each origin, with lots from Central America, East Africa and Brazil, and every batch is tracked for traceability.

The beans are roasted at the team's workshop in Algete, outside the city, while the Tetuán shop is where they reach the grinder for espresso, milk drinks and filter coffee. It also serves brunch, so people tend to stay a while. Bags of the house coffees, subscriptions and brewing gear are available through the 1000 Cups online shop, and the team runs courses for anyone who wants to learn more about brewing.
