Blanche Dael Branderij

Guillaume Dael founded this roastery on April 17, 1878, making it the oldest coffee roastery in the south of the Netherlands and still a family run business nearly a century and a half later. The company moved its roasting, cafe, retail shop and training school into the redeveloped Brikkenbouw building in the Sphinxkwartier in November 2020, a monumental industrial space that later won the city's own architecture prize for the redevelopment.
Blanche Dael earned B Corp certification and runs an SCA certified barista and coffee school on site alongside roastery tours, a rare combination of history and formal training under one roof. A separate retail shop on Wolfstraat, the brand's original 1878 address in the city centre, still sells beans, tea and roasted peanuts on its own shorter hours.
