Intelligentsia Coffee

Intelligentsia opened its Sunset Junction coffeebar in August 2007, the company's first cafe outside Chicago, where it was founded in 1995 by Doug Zell and Emily Mange. The room was designed by Barbara Bestor of Bestor Architecture, who faced a Carrara marble bar in blue and white tile from Granada Tiles, a pattern that runs from the sidewalk through the patio and up the walls of the central counter. Neighbors on the block include the Cheese Store of Silver Lake and Cafe Stella.

Outdoor space is open all day along Sunset Boulevard, wifi is free, and the cafe takes online orders for pickup. The bar has also been a training ground for many Los Angeles baristas, which keeps it feeling like a working neighborhood cafe.
