The Roasting Shed

The Roasting Shed began when its owners started roasting coffee in a garden shed because they loved drinking and sharing it. That small beginning grew into a roastery and cafe at 322 Hornsey Road, which opened just before Christmas 2020. Co owner Ricardo grew up in Colombia surrounded by coffee plantations owned by family and friends, and the roasting reflects it: small batches, traceable supply chains, and long relationships with the importers, growers and cooperatives behind each coffee.
The room is built to do several jobs at once. A shared communal table with plug sockets and free wifi suits laptop work, while separate tables fill up with readers and friends, and there is seating outside. The coffee roasted on site is sold in bags at the counter, a second cafe operates at Hackney Bridge, and on Friday the space stays open late as a wine bar. Courses and home brewing equipment are also part of the offer.
