Scenery Coffee Roasters

Scenery was founded by a trio, Stu, Ross and Alex, who bring around three decades of specialty coffee experience between them. They roast in house on a Loring S35, buy early from importers while lots are still at origin, and describe each roast by how much roaster influence you can taste rather than by colour, from lighter than Nordic up to heavy. Every coffee carries an illustration by Lucas Garcia.

The cafe sits inside the Jerwood Space, a Victorian school building on Union Street that is now a rehearsal centre for the performing arts. The furniture is secondhand and upcycled, and a glasshouse of tropical plants fills part of the room. At the bar there is house espresso, batch brew and a single dose menu of pour overs and single origin espressos that turns over as new lots land.
