Redemption Roasters Hampstead Heath

Looking through the open double doors of Redemption Roasters on South End Road into a bright long room with a red column, round tables and wooden chairs, and the coffee bar along the right wall

Redemption Roasters' South End Road shop sits beside Hampstead Heath, which makes it a natural stop before or after a walk on the heath. The coffee is roasted by trainees in prison, sold under the Redemption name and served as espresso and filter, with the story of the training printed on the bags.

The company began in 2016 when the Ministry of Justice approached Max Dubiel and Ted Rosner about installing a working roastery inside a prison, and the first roaster was built at HMYOI Aylesbury to give young people in custody a trade for after release. The company describes itself as the world's first prison based coffee roaster, and in 2026 it received the King's Award for Enterprise for the model.
