Nagare Coffee

Nagare opened in Spitalfields in January 2023 inside an 18th century building. The name is Japanese for a flowing river, borrowed from Bruce Lee's advice to be water, and the room follows it, with a wooden counter along one side, a few small tables around a fireplace and window seats in two big windows. A cream La Marzocco machine sits at the centre, and drinks arrive in Japanese ceramic cups.
Coffee comes from a monthly rotation of guest roasters from around the world, with names such as Market Lane, Weekenders, Obadiah, Sweven and Curve passing through the grinders. A small selection of brewing kit and cups is sold on the side. Nagare has since opened two more cafes, but Brushfield Street is where it began, and benches outside take the overflow.
