Dark Arts Coffee

The red brick Dark Arts Coffee building at 1 to 5 Rosina Street with a glazed roller door and motorbikes parked outside

Dark Arts began in Hackney in 2014, when Bradley Morrison and Colin Mitchell started roasting, with Jamie Strachan joining the following year. The brand built its name on skull and horror film imagery, but the sourcing is taken seriously: traceable lots, direct relationships where possible, and a taste for coffees from overlooked origins, including Guerrero in Mexico, which they have bought from since 2021.

Rosina Street is the headquarters. Since 2020 the roastery, quality control and production have shared a converted steelworks with a takeaway espresso bar, so your flat white comes from the people who roasted the beans a few metres away. A second, smaller counter sits inside The Great Frog in Shoreditch, but this is where everything happens, from roasting and quality control to packing the subscription orders.
