Climpson & Sons

The espresso machine and grinder at Climpson & Sons against a dark tiled wall, cookbooks and ceramics on the shelf above

Started as a market coffee cart in 2002 before settling into this converted butcher's shop on Broadway Market, which it's occupied long enough to now count as a neighborhood fixture rather than a newcomer. Broadway Market itself runs a well known Saturday market along the same stretch, a mix of food stalls and small producers that's turned the street into one of Hackney's most reliable weekend destinations, and Climpson & Sons has been part of that draw for most of its history. Roasting happens at Climpson's own facility nearby in London Fields, with bagged beans and home brewing kit sold at the counter.

The feel is relaxed and market day casual rather than polished, a shop for the Saturday crowd as much as the coffee obsessive, and one that still shows its butcher shop bones in the tiling and layout if you look for them. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor seating, with greenery nearby for a post coffee walk. Broadway Market's stalls outside make this an easy stop before or after browsing.
