Chief Coffee

The Chief Coffee bar with grey pendant lamps under wooden beams, a cream espresso machine and a chalkboard menu

Chief Coffee sits in a converted Victorian bottling factory down Turnham Green Terrace Mews in Chiswick, once home to the furniture company Isokon Plus. Inside are exposed brick, an original wooden ceiling and a custom Corian bar built around a La Marzocco machine. The coffee comes from Allpress and Workshop, two of London's best known specialty roasters, with Allpress on espresso and a changing Workshop coffee on filter.

What sets Chief apart is the play. A pinball lounge in the basement holds eight machines, and the top floor has been turned into a Japanese arcade room, so a flat white can turn into an afternoon. Tables with benches sit out front in the mews for dry days, and local artwork hangs on the brick walls. It works as a quick weekday stop or a proper outing with friends once the flippers start.
