Carbon Kopi

Natalie and Chris Brittan met in Auckland, New Zealand, where they picked up a taste for the country's specialty coffee culture, and opened Carbon Kopi on a Hammersmith corner in October 2019 once they'd settled in West London. The name blends carbon, for a strong, consistent character, with kopi, the Malay word for coffee, a nod to Chris's own heritage. The site itself has apparently served coffee before, once a café over fifty years ago, more recently a family run funeral parlour.

Square Mile Coffee Roasters supplies the house espresso, poured through a Victoria Arduino Black Eagle machine and ground on a Mythos 2 and Mahlkönig EK43, while a monthly rotating cast of guest roasters, among them Prolog, Mame Coffee in Zurich, and Round Hill, fills out the filter side. Milk comes from The Estate Dairy, tea from The Kettle Shed, and baked goods from Hedone Bakery, all served in reusable beakers made from recycled coffee husks. A front patio and back garden won the shop a Best Outdoor Seating award in 2020.
