Caravan King's Cross

Three New Zealanders who had worked restaurant floors together back home, Laura Harper-Hinton, Chris Ammermann and Miles Kirby, opened the first Caravan in Exmouth Market in 2010, pairing an all day, globally sourced menu with a serious coffee program at a time when few London restaurants treated the two as equally important. The King's Cross branch followed in 2012 as the first restaurant to open inside the newly redeveloped Granary Square, taking over a Grade II listed grainstore that once gave the square its name, with Central Saint Martins moving in upstairs soon after.

The group now roasts its own coffee under the Caravan Coffee Roasters name, pouring it alongside a menu that pulls from the Middle East, Asia and Europe, think lamb kofte and coconut red curry next to flat whites and pour over. The dining room keeps the original grainstore's timber ceiling and cast iron columns, and the terrace out front, right by the Granary Square fountains, fills up fast whenever the sun is out. Caravan became a certified B Corp in 2024, and the founding team bought the company back into full independent ownership in 2025.
