Allpress Espresso

Opened in 2011 as Allpress's first London roastery before the actual roasting moved to a dedicated Dalston site in 2015, leaving this Redchurch Street original as a café-and-retail outpost rather than a working roastery today. Redchurch Street itself has gone through one of Shoreditch's more dramatic transformations, from a fairly rough backstreet a couple of decades ago to one of East London's most fashion- and gallery-dense strips, and Allpress has been a fixture through most of that shift. Exposed brick and plenty of natural light keep the feel laid-back rather than showroom-polished, in line with the rest of the street's mix of independent boutiques and design studios.

Bagged beans and equipment are sold at the counter for anyone who wants to take the New Zealand-founded roaster's coffee home — the company now roasts across several countries, but London remains one of its longest-running outposts outside Auckland. Shoreditch's Redchurch Street crowd keeps it steady through most of the day.
