Origen Tostadores de Café

Gino Kanashiro Asato opened Origen on 6 March 2013 with a promise that nobody would leave without knowing where their coffee came from. The first shop went into Pueblo Libre, well away from the tourist districts, and it is still the home of the brand, now one of four Origen cafés across Lima. It began as a family project, with Gino as barista and roaster alongside his wife Jessica Tejada, and it became a training ground for some of Peru's national barista competition podium finishers.

Every coffee is roasted in house and comes with its story: the farm, the variety, the process and the producer. The coffees come from growers Origen visits in the north, centre and south of Peru, and the current list on the website names farms such as El Romerillo, Marco Aurelio and Colina Soñada. Bags are sold in the café and shipped across the country, and the team also supplies and trains other coffee shops.
