Monotono Coffee

Monótono opened on 1 July 2024 on Jirón Fedelli in Barranco, started by Hibeth Rodríguez and Piero Alva with one idea: let the coffee do the talking. The room is a calm study in concrete, grey and black with a compact bar, a short menu and no kitchen, so nothing competes with the aroma of what is being brewed. It was named the best specialty café in Lima at the 2025 Lima Experience competition and sits at number 23 on the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list for 2026.
Piero roasts the coffees himself, in a light and clean style that puts each origin first. The slow bar carries a long rotating list of filter coffees, mostly Peruvian lots from Cajamarca and Cusco including Geisha from San Ignacio, with guest lots from further afield, alongside espresso and cold brew. Bags of the current roasts are also sold to take home.
