Gemi Roasters

Behind a storefront on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, the nightlife heavy stretch locals call the Karli, Gemi Roasters occupies the same address that ran for years as Kalas Coffee, a shop with roots in Seoul that opened its Leipzig branch in the summer of 2020. Head roaster Ann has been in coffee since encountering a Geisha lot that made him ask what he was even tasting, and the roastery today reflects a shift over time toward a lighter, Nordic leaning style of roast.

A courtyard hidden behind the building gives the shop a quiet seating area away from the street, while the beans themselves, filter roasts and espresso blends built from single country lots, ship out through an online store alongside a subscription and wholesale accounts. The shop keeps identical hours every day of the week, opening at 11 and running until 6.
