Weekenders Coffee Shinmachi opened on 30 September 2026 as the new home of one of Kyoto's best known specialty roasters, replacing the Tominokoji shop that closed in April. Masahiro and Ayumi Kaneko started Weekenders as a cafe in Sakyo Ward in 2005, and the business moved mainly to roasting from 2011.

Masahiro Kaneko roasts in a light to medium style that keeps the natural flavor of each lot, and even the washed coffees are known for sweetness and a tea like body. Recent lots include a Panamanian Geisha and Ethiopian coffees such as Banko Gotiti and Arbegona.
