Penguin Specialty Coffee

Jack Tan founded Penguin in 2019 on a quiet street in Bandar Menjalara, a roastery and cafe built on the idea that great coffee should be for everyone, not just enthusiasts. The roasting happens right beside the service counter, so you can watch beans turn while your drink is made, and the friendly baristas are happy to talk you through the list.

The shelves run through single origins from Ethiopia, Kenya, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala and China, from light roasted Ethiopian lots with notes of honey and stone fruit to everyday blends, and everything is roasted at their own facility. Penguin also teaches, with barista and latte art workshops in the space, and takes its coffee out to events and offices through a catering service.
