Ghostbird Coffee Roastery

Thomas Ooi founded Ghostbird in 2015, borrowing the name from his earlier venture The Owls Cafe, since ghost bird is the literal translation of the Malay word for owl. Today the roastery and bar on Jalan Seputeh behind Mid Valley feels like a school for specialty coffee, with a wall of brewing gear, a glass fronted roasting and packing room, and a long tiered table stacked with beans, flasks and tasting note cards waiting to be sampled.

Beans are roasted on a Giesen W6A drum roaster and rested before they go out, and the list runs from everyday house blends to championship level single origins, with a proud shelf of Malaysian coffees grown in Sabah and a Liberica programme with local producers. The bar offers AeroPress, V60, Orea and siphon alongside espresso, and the team loves walking visitors through how water changes flavour. Ghostbird has hosted the Malaysia AeroPress Championship since 2023 and helped found the Good Coffee Festival.
