Giyanti Coffee Roastery

Hendrik Halianto opened Giyanti Coffee Roastery on Jalan Surabaya in Menteng in late November 2012, across from the street's antique market, after training as a barista at Espresto following hospitality school in Australia. His interest in coffee started at home watching his father brew espresso on a Rancilio Silvia machine. He installed a Victoria Arduino Athena Leva espresso machine and an Italian Petroncini roaster in the original fifty square meter shop and began sourcing green beans directly from Indonesian farmers, sample roasting each lot himself before buying.

The roastery still turns out espresso and manual brew from Toraja, Flores and Sumatra alongside coffees sourced from outside Indonesia, served in a space of exposed brick, dark ceiling beams and tropical greenery that has kept its rustic vintage mood since opening. Flat whites and carrot cake are on the menu today, and the beans are still roasted on site rather than sent out.
