Brennpunkt Coffee Competence

Gerhard Farbmacher and Astrid Eberle opened Brennpunkt in 2015 inside a set of two hundred year old viaduct arches, choosing the spot partly because roasting produces noise and smell that would bother close neighbors, and the arches came with none. The operation spans three vaults side by side, roasting on one end, a seminar room on the other, and the coffee bar in the middle, pulling shots from close to forty single origins and blends roasted on site under organic and fairtrade certification.

Beyond the espresso bar, Brennpunkt runs a coffee academy teaching roasting and brewing classes, sells beans and equipment to home users and other cafes alike, and keeps a mobile bar for events around the city. Evenings sometimes turn into informal after work gatherings under the arches, cold drinks out and occasional live music, before the room resets for the next morning's roast.
