Yemex Bakehouse & Specialty Coffee

The curved plaster counter at Yemex with a white orchid, a pastry case, bagged coffee and lit alcoves holding an oud and ceramics

Yemex is a Yemeni and Mexican bakehouse and coffee bar in the Energy Corridor, in a calm room of curved plaster walls, glowing alcoves and a traditional oud on display. It grew out of a home kitchen, and its savory pastries are halal, made with zabiha halal certified meats.

Alongside a standard espresso menu it pours made to order specialty coffees from Yemen, such as a natural washed Haraz Bani Murah and a natural anaerobic lot from Al Haimah, brewed with a wait of fifteen to twenty minutes. The drinks lean on both kitchens, with a cafe de olla latte, a Spanish latte, an Adeni chai and the Areekano, an iced americano topped with date foam, cheddar and honey. Pastries include a chorizo and potato croissant, a labne and za'atar croissant and a cardamom twist.
