Helsingin Kahvipaahtimo Päiväkahvibaari Vallila

Helsingin Kahvipaahtimo began in 2011 with Benjamin Andberg, who had already helped start Kaffa Roastery and who still leads the roasting and product development. The Vallila daytime coffee bar is the neighbourhood front room for that roastery, a tiny space full of secondhand furniture where the coffee is poured straight from the beans roasted on a German Probat heated with Finnish biogas.
Most of the green coffee is bought directly from farmers, and the bar pours it as espresso and filter alongside a rotating light roast single origin called Ota/Jätä, which means take it or leave it. Mornings bring a small yoghurt bar and pastries from the roastery's own baker, and bags of the roastery's coffees are on hand to take home.
