Speicherstadt Kaffeerösterei

Speicherstadt Kaffeerösterei opened its doors in 2006 in a red brick warehouse from 1888 on Kehrwieder, in the district that has been the heart of European coffee trading for centuries. The idea came from two Hamburg coffee trading families and was built on direct, fair and transparent relationships with growers, with the whole journey from jute sack to finished cup meant to be visible.
The cafe spreads across more than 250 square metres of oak floorboards, with the Probat drum roaster standing in the middle of the room so guests can watch beans roasting slowly while they drink. Roasting happens around twenty times a day, and the range runs from sorted single origins and direct traded microlots to a colour coded system that steers you to the style you like best. Barges drift past the back windows on the canal, and the Fabrikladen shop sells every roast to take home.
