Public Coffee Roasters

Argin and Arameh Keshishian opened the first Public Coffee Roasters on Wexstraße back in April 2014, a former agency office in Neustadt turned into a small, refined counter a few minutes from the Michel. The roastery outgrew its original home on a converted customs house on the Elbe within a few years and moved to a proper facility in Rahlstedt, three Probat drums doing the work now, though the old houseboat still stands as the company's coffee academy for training.

The Wexstraße room keeps a deliberately restrained look, a circular flavor wheel mounted on a black gridded wall doing most of the visual work above mismatched colorful chairs and plank tables. Beans are roasted from green coffee sourced through direct relationships with farms in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Panama, and Honduras, sold both by the cup and in retail bags, and the cheesecake gets almost as much attention locally as the espresso does.
