Playground Coffee

Veljko Tatalović, a former photographer, started Playground Coffee in 2014 as a pop up espresso bar tucked inside Otto's Burger, and the St. Pauli cafe near the Reeperbahn followed in March 2017. The name is a promise of its own: a playground for coffee lovers, a place to try new flavour profiles, learn something and simply enjoy a cup.

The beans are hand selected from farms around the world and roasted in Hamburg on the Elbe coast, with a focus on long term relationships with farmers and importers. Each roast arrives in wildly illustrated packaging, from the space themed Moonwalker and Nightwalker espressos to a Kenyan microlot from Nyeri. Bags, brewing gear and merch fill the bright blue shelves against a pink wall, and in good weather there are tables outside.
