Maeva

Youssef opened Maeva in the Vijfhoek quarter just outside Haarlem's historic center, taking the name from the Tahitian word for welcome. A record player sets the pace behind a counter that rotates through some of the strongest guest roasters working in the Netherlands and Belgium, Amsterdam's Friedhats, The Hague's Single Estate Coffee Roasters and Antwerp's Normo among the regulars.

The flat white is the standout order, served in a room more spacious than most of Haarlem's tighter footprints allow, with vegan cakes and non dairy milk covering anyone skipping dairy. It is one of the newer additions to the city's coffee map, built around genuinely rotating sourcing rather than a single house blend.
