Costadoro Social Coffee

Costadoro, a coffee company that has been roasting in Turin since 1890, opened this flagship 'social coffee' concept store in Sestri Ponente in May 2021, turning a 250 square metre space with its own garden into a room built around teaching people about coffee rather than just serving it. Reclaimed wood and iron piping salvaged from decommissioned Alpine roofs frame the bar, where staff talk customers through the origin, roast profile and best serving temperature of whatever is in the cup, working through the aromatic notes together with a flavor wheel.

The counter runs six ways into a cup: espresso, Chemex, French press, V60, Moka, and a twelve hour cold brew, poured from the organic and Fairtrade RespecTo blend or from rotating single origin lots with berry, jasmine and wine notes. Braille and pictogram menus built with Turin's association for the blind sit alongside compostable cups and free water refills, and bags of the RespecTo and Coffee Lab blends go home with customers straight from the counter.
