The Holy Cross Brewing Society

The Holy Cross Brewing Society opened on Fahrgasse in December 2015, when photographer Mathias Stalter turned a family project into a coffee bar a short walk from the cathedral, the Römer and the Alte Brücke. A broad glazed front opens onto a bright industrial room of wooden tables and a long working counter, close enough to the river to carry a cup down to the banks of the Main.
The bar built its name rotating coffees from ambitious roasters across Germany, Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and Africa, and in 2026 the next generation added its own roasting alongside that guest lineup. Multiple grinders keep hand brewed filter and espresso running side by side, with a retail shelf of beans and equipment for taking the comparison home. Cakes, croissants, banana bread and pastel de nata fill out the counter, and the room goes laptop free on weekends and public holidays to keep tables turning for coffee rather than work.
