Ordinary Coffee Roasters

Ordinary Coffee Roasters occupies a small side street showroom at the northern end of Leipziger Straße in Bockenheim, opened by Levin Schrey-Exner and Jonas Hoffmann after both trained at Hoppenworth & Ploch and drei kaffeebar. Pale walls and a concrete floor frame a handmade dark timber brew bar, a couple of rounded stools and slim metal shelves stacked with drippers and coffee samples, closer to a tasting counter than a conventional cafe.
Roasting drives the whole menu here, favoring very light and sometimes ultra light profiles, from washed Rwandan and Ecuadorian lots chosen for clean acidity to naturals and co ferments built around louder fruit. Any bag on the shelf can be brewed to order as espresso or pour over, so describing the kind of cup you want and letting the counter choose gets more out of a visit than picking by origin alone. A sugar cane processed decaf rounds out the espresso side, and cookies and pastel de nata cover the small amount of food on offer. It closes on Mondays.
