Machina Coffee

Bright interior corner of Machina Coffee Marchmont with white tongue and groove panelling, ornate ceiling coving, wooden pendant lights, and a street facing window looking onto Marchmont Road tenements

A DJ named Steve looking for a new challenge was introduced to Michael, a coffee obsessed barista trainer, and the pair launched Machina in 2013 to bring third wave coffee to Edinburgh. This Marchmont address is both cafe and roastery outlet, two bright rooms behind a tenement facade with tall corniced ceilings, original wood panelling, and seating for around fifty across the space.

Espresso runs on two single origins at a time, one built for milk drinks and one for straight shots, with batch brew filter split the same way. Vegan cinnamon buns and kilted donuts come from local bakers, laptop desks are set aside on weekdays, and an outdoor patio adds around two dozen more seats from April through September.
