HipHop

HipHop is the joint venture of Luke Allen and Nobu Matsui, who worked together at Prolog before opening their own tiny coffee bar under Nobu's roasting. The beans are roasted under the Sensei name and served exclusively here and at Sensei's own retail shop in Nordhavn, light in style and tuned toward the fruit and floral notes Nordic filter drinkers tend to look for. Luke reads the water's TDS every morning before service, the kind of small obsessive habit that runs through a menu otherwise kept deliberately short: espresso, filter, and a handful of classic milk drinks, nothing to distract from the coffee itself.

The shop sits inside Mjølnerparken, a Nørrebro housing estate a fair distance from the city's usual coffee crawl through Vesterbro and Indre By, which keeps the crowd mostly local rather than passing tourist traffic. Banana bread and simple pastries round out the counter, but the coffee is clearly the reason people seek this address out rather than the food.
