Café Jumping Bean

Eleazar Delgado opened Café Jumping Bean in 1994, inspired by coffeehouses he had visited in Monterrey, Mexico, and it became Pilsen's first cafe south of Division Street. Neighbors initially accused Delgado of ushering in gentrification when it opened, a criticism that three decades of continuous neighborhood service have since complicated rather than confirmed.

His brother, artist Guillermo Delgado, painted the cafe's tabletops and a community mural on the building's exterior, and the space doubles as a gallery for local artists. A third Pilsen location was announced in October 2025, a strong signal of ongoing health rather than decline.
