Espresso Lab Microroasters

This is where Espresso Lab started. Since 2009 the micro roastery at the Old Biscuit Mill has been roasting small batches of freshly harvested coffee on site, building each profile to show off the terroir and character of its origin. The beans come from fully traceable farms, estates and cooperatives, with direct relationships with growers and exporters behind them, and the team treats finding the best way to enjoy each coffee as a daily quest.

The store is a stark white, lab styled space where an apron clad crew serves a globetrotting coffee menu in glass beakers, and a sheltered courtyard out front is the spot to land a table. On Saturday mornings the Neighbourgoods Market fills the complex and the queue grows, so a weekday visit is the relaxed way to meet one of the pioneers of Cape Town's specialty coffee scene.
