Barrio Collective Coffee

Barrio Collective Coffee roasts its own beans out of a small bar on Lonsdale Street in Braddon, in the same strip of shops that anchors much of Canberra's inner north coffee scene. The name nods to the collective idea behind it, since baristas trained here have gone on to open several of the city's other coffee bars, making this one of the closest things Canberra has to a coffee training ground.

The space stays small and functional, built for people getting a coffee and a toastie rather than settling in for hours, with bags of house roasted beans stacked by the counter for anyone who wants to take the blend home. Dogs are a regular fixture both at the outdoor tables and inside the bar itself, and the hot sauce shelf by the till has become something of a side attraction in its own right.
