Essentzia Coffee Project

A shelf of bagged Essentzia specialty coffee for retail, labeled by origin, against a wall mural of coffee branches

Gianluca Mereu, who has worked as a roaster, trainer, and coffee consultant for over a decade, opened Essentzia Coffee Project on Via Santa Gilla in Sant'Avendrace in November 2025, giving Cagliari a coffee lab built around an open view roasting room rather than a counter for sitting down. Visitors can watch green beans, bought direct from producers in Colombia, Honduras, Ethiopia, and Costa Rica, go through small batch roasts a few feet from where they stand.

Coffee here is meant to be tasted more than rushed: espresso, moka, and filter are all brewed to order, and guided tastings and cupping sessions run alongside barista training courses for anyone who wants to go deeper. Beans go home in whole bean, ground, or single serve drip bag format, roasted in small batches and sold straight from the lab.
