AVI '38 Specialty Coffeebar

AVI '38 takes its name from a small piece of family history. Keith, the barista who runs it, borrowed avi, the Catalan word for grandfather, and paired it with 38, the year his grandfather was born, a nod to family ties that reach back to Barcelona. The bar moved into Bruges from nearby Zedelgem in 2024 and settled into a narrow room in the shadow of the Stadsschouwburg theatre, its bright pink interior standing out against the brick lanes around it.
Keith grinds each order fresh rather than pulling from a hopper filled earlier in the day, and the cake case changes daily alongside a small rotating list of hot and cold drinks. About thirty seats fill the inside, with window seats good for watching the street, plus a handful of tables outside for anyone who would rather sit out front.
