Recreo Coffee & Roasterie

Recreo is a family run roaster whose entire bean supply comes from El Recreo, a single farm in Jinotega, Nicaragua that has grown coffee since 1905 and has belonged to the same family since 1972. Coffee is picked and processed on that farm, then imported and roasted for this West Roxbury shop, which locals have taken to calling the neighborhood's living room.

A third of the company's profits go back into the farm to fund local schooling, healthcare and housing for its workers in Nicaragua, a detail the shop is upfront about rather than treating as marketing. The menu includes a Swiss Water processed decaf alongside the usual single origin roasts, and there's patio seating out back for anyone not in a hurry.
