Friend or Foe Specialty Coffee Market

Colombian founders Ricardo Daniel and Anna Guzman opened Friend or Foe in a subterranean space off Marktgasse in April 2024, building a multi roaster market where the beans on offer change constantly. Daniel orders five kilos at a time from each roaster and sells through until it's gone rather than reordering the same lots, which keeps the shelf genuinely different visit to visit.

Rwanda anaerobics and other experimental processes that split opinion are a regular feature rather than an exception, poured through Origami, V60, or flat bottom brewers depending on what the coffee calls for. Sugar is left off the counter entirely, a deliberate choice that forces each cup to show its own sweetness and balance. Daniel's own path to the shop ran through six years in Switzerland and a stint as a food delivery cyclist before this subterranean experiment.
