Berlin — Kreuzberg

Known nearly as much for its cheesecake as for its coffee, which is unusual for a shop that also runs its own micro-roastery a few streets away on Glogauer Straße. Kreuzberg itself has a long history as one of Berlin's most multicultural, countercultural districts, and Five Elephant's mix of serious coffee and a genuinely famous bakery case fits a neighborhood that's never been precious about mixing things that don't obviously belong together. A 2025 renovation opened the room up considerably, adding a dedicated filter bar and a lot more daylight than the original fit-out had, without losing the apartment-plain feel that set it apart from more industrial-styled competitors.
Wood-and-steel furniture keeps things closer to a well-furnished living room than a showroom. Bagged beans and merchandise are sold at the counter alongside the bakery case, and there's usually a line for both by mid-morning on weekends.
