Henrique Fiuza opened Intelligenza in Savassi in mid 2016 after a trip to the United States that included a visit to the original Intelligentsia Coffee shop in Venice, California, which lent both the name and the concept, a room meant for appreciating good coffee, holding meetings, studying or writing. Beans come almost entirely from Minas Gerais, drawing on the Cerrado and South of Minas regions, including a bourbon amarelo and topazio variety lot from Fazenda Barinas in Araxa.

The shop does not roast its own coffee, instead working with Noete Cafe Clube as its roasting partner, and built a dedicated third floor workspace with large tables, power outlets and wifi specifically for people who want to sit and work rather than just pass through.
