Sula Espai

The sunlit room of Sula Espai with light wood tables and chairs, tall stools along the window and a white brick counter with shelves of wine and coffee at the back

Sula Espai is a neighbourhood multiroaster café in Sants run by Cristian, a Catalan, and Mariana, who is Argentine. The name joins the Spanish words for south and latitude, a nod to where they come from and to the way latitude shapes both coffee and wine. They wanted a calm place to meet close to home, so the room is warm and natural, built around a round central bar that has no start or finish.

Each month the team works with three different roasters, one from Catalonia, one from elsewhere in Spain and one from abroad, chosen for character rather than name recognition. Natural wine and a fully vegetarian kitchen sit alongside the coffee, and the room doubles as a space for tastings, talks and pop ups. The circular counter puts the barista's work on show to everyone in the room, which gives the place the feel of a small neighbourhood meeting point rather than a grab and go stop.
